First time taking ovulation test, help

So this afternoon after work was my first time ever in my life of ttc I've taken an ovulation test (just the strips you buy at walgreens) and it was negative. I have irregular periods. For the average female, day 14 of your cycle is the day of ovulation. AF came 5/27 and ended 5/28. Apparently today should be the day I ovulate, day 14 of my cycle. But my test was negative? No LH surge? According to glow I'm in my fertile Window, but I'm not on my "peak day" so to speak.. Does that mean I don't or won't or can't ovulate? Any advice would be helpful :) Thank you
