Do you let handy-men in if you're home alone?

My husband and I just bought our first house, and I have days free (I work afternoons and nights mostly), so I have been handling repairs/deliveries.

Today I had the locks changed, and for whatever reason I just had the weirdest feeling about the man working on the house. He made me uncomfortable, so  I trusted my gut and stayed outside in the open while he was working. He stayed in my driveway after I paid him, and I was finally forced to leave after 10 minutes to go to work, so I don't know when he actually left. It just didn't feel right.

I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this/advice on how to handle future situations/if you'd be comfortable being home alone with a complete stranger?

I have a very simple solution to your problem. GUNS! I'm from the south and have quite a few. I ALWAYS feel safe and feel like I can protect my daughter if needed!

When I stayed with my dad, I HATED it. He works like 14 hour days so I was always home. I was there when the account repair man came. The windshield repair man. There was something in the attic that needed fixed. I always felt awkward because of how they look at me. I'd stay around my dogs near the kitchen just in case. Now that I live with my boyfriend, I refuse to let any guy in the house that isn't him. Even his guy friends coming over is awkward for me, I guess because of how they look at me. But I always tell him, if something needs to be done-he better be home too.

I would check if anything was stolen! If you didn't feel comfortable to be in your own home with the repair man they shouldn't be left alone completely there

I have but I too trust my gut I've just never had anyone I didn't trust and had that feeling about. Do you have friends or family nearby that would be available to come over also? If not maybe a friendly trustworthy neighbor, otherwise you could always call the non emergency police number and see if they could send someone to check on things. Was he in his vehicle when you left or standing out side? He very well could have been doing paperwork or returning calls and figuring where to go bid once he left your house. Hope all is well and congrats on the new house.

I'm a SAHM plus I was a single mom before that I pretty used to taking care of things on my own people are always coming over from the cable guy to the plumber ect but my husband has me call him when they get there and will call back in 30 min so if I don't answer he will come home but I always answer no problems yet (knock on wood) my husbands more paranoid then I am but I guess because I'm used to doing everything alone I always joke with him and say I made it this long and I've survived but I know he just worries

I have an apartment and I let our handymen in when I'm home alone - but I've also taken self defense classes, AND every room in our house has either a machete, a bow and arrow set, a dagger, or at least one sword - one of which is battle ready.

I can hold my own and my husband has no doubt about it lol 💪 i had to run off a few lawn mowers just last week by myself, but that wasn't the first time I encountered that situation. Always let them know in someway that you're not at all scared but don't ever be too friendly. They'll assume you've got some kind of protection (if they're smart) it also helps to live in the south.

Yikes no I would have a friend over or something. My dad used to schedule repair men to come when I was home alone and I was always terrified and felt super awkward usually I would just lock myself in my room.
