I really don’t understand ovulation at all. Some one pleasee explain!

Ovulation is the process of your reproductive system maturing and releasing an ovum for the purpose of reproduction during a normal cycle. This takes place over the course of usually 28 to 35 days in which the ovaries produce hormones which starts the maturation of a follicle and the building of the lining of the uterus. During the first approximately 14 days of the cycle, called the follicular phase, the follicle stimulating hormone is released by the pituitary gland in the brain which signaled the ovaries to begin to mature a follicle that holds an undeveloped egg. Ovulation occurs once the follicle is full developed. The egg then bursts from the follicle and is released into the Fallopian tube. The next approximately 14 days is the luteal phase. The amount of luteinizing hormone that has helped to produce the egg has reach its peak at ovulation. After the follicle has ruptured, a cyst forms and continues to produce LH and progesterone to maintain the pregnancy and uterine tissue until the placenta has formed.  The egg usually lives for about 24 hrs as it travels through the tube and into the uterus where it awaits fertilization. If it does not occur, the eggs passes through and is shed during menstruation. Similarly, if no fertilization and implantation has occurred, the estrogen and progesterone hormones drop and begin to break down the lining of the uterus. Menstruation marks the beginning of a new cycle where this will continue to repeat.
