Skipping periods

So I have been skipping my period for about 2 months now by just leaving it in for 4 weeks then taking it out and immediately putting in a new one. But last week I started having black discharge and it had a foul odor then I started bleeding red. During that time I had the Nuvaring in. I took it out after 2 days because I was worried there was an infection. I’m on my period now but has that happened to anyone else who has tried skipping their period on the nuvaring?
