How do you afford children in 2018 and still have a life?

We are TTC. we're both in our 30s and it is scaring me. We both have good jobs and make an ok salary combined but then I think about everything baby needs, then University, then what about paying our mortgage and when we want to travel? what about saving for retirement? How do you folks do it?

You realize that you'll never have enough and that is okay. Kids are expensive.

You find a way. There’s always going to be expenses in life and things you want to save for but can’t necessarily have. Kids are expensive but they’re also so rewarding. And you find ways to compromise so you have what you need.

You don't! My husband has a career and I sahm and gave up my entire life. And I am honestly miserable. He travels for work and I am left to do everything for weeks and months on end. He sets up concert lights, so not saving the world. Just hanging backstage smoking weed while I am the only one sacrificing anything to have kids. It sucks and I want my life back, or atleast have time for a hobby

I’m from the uk and have 3 children. I rented my own home for 10 years and was paying out a lot for rent, I couldn’t save a penny. We decided that we would move in with my dad 14months ago so we could save and we do. I’ve almost got enough for a deposit in a house now which is good but it’s not been easy living in someone else’s space. All 3 of my girls do kickboxing as a hobby and it only costs me £90 a month, they go everyday after school until 5. We find parks to go to and take a picnic. Then we will go out once a month or so to a zoo or play centre. I also try and save 10 a week so I’m the summer holidays we have money to spend. Kickboxing is great it’s like a family and in the holidays we go out every Friday to different places like outside water parks ect it costs us hardly anything. Just try different hobbies pick one they like and stick to it.
