Game Changer

So my boyfriend and I recently broke up and but we remained best friends and were very important to each other and want to stay in each other's lives. A week later he told me the reason is because he is in love with a mutual friend and has loved her for a very long time. He said she was the reason why he broke up with his last girlfriend. We had something serious and he said he meant every word when he said he loved me and his feelings were true and didn't think of her then. He is very depressed now because she has been dating one of his best friends for years and they are in love but he doesn't treat her very well. There is no possibility they can end up together because of all the friendships it would ultimately ruin. I am the only person he can go to with this because he can't tell anyone else and asked I don't either. I want to help him because I do love him as a friend, I still have feelings for him, and I couldn't imagine a world without him. I don't want him to take his life. I am so worried and concerned and stunned and so hurt. I don't know what to do.
