Changing my child’s last name.

Deja

On Feb. 12th, 2018, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and I couldn’t be more happy. While searching for names, I had planned on giving the baby my last name, because his father was absent my entire pregnancy and only went with me to my last 3 doctors appointments because my parents made him go.

After giving birth, I could see a slight change. He came to the hospital every day and attempted to help with the baby, although the help was very little.

My last day in the hospital we did the process of the birth certificate. I was still unsure of the last name, but wanted to give him a chance of being somewhat involved in the baby’s name, therefore, I gave him his father’s last name.

Now I deeply regret it. He has not attempted to come see the baby and has only checked on the baby (via text message) one time, but he cares for and visits another child that isn’t his.

Should I give him more time to man up or take the legal action of getting my child’s last name changed?

UPDATE:

Baby’s last name was changed and it feels so good. The father hates it and I can honestly care less. My baby deserves to have the person’s last name who cares for him and shows him unconditional love not a father who thinks giving him his last name is the same as taking care of him.
