Feeling Stressed - Insurance Woes

From the get go my OB was aware we only wanted medically necessary testing. When investigating our family history, specifically mine with a history of genetic heart defects, we were told we would need a fetal echo to rule out any issues.

Well the fetal echo came back with VSD(Ventricular Septal Defect) and the cardiologist wants us to go back for further testing to determine size of the whole etc.

Today, I get a notice from insurance that a family history of congenital heart defects is not a medically necessary reason for the test and they want me to pay $1925! Out of pocket, not going towards my deductible or anything. They did however politely inform me all further testing is now 100% covered due to the findings. Doesn’t that seem ironic?

What a crock!! Waiting for the OB to call me back so she can hopefully modify the diagnosis to a reason they will accept because this is so much stress. We already know it will cost $6k to have the baby and we pay $1000 a month for this plan.

My apologies for the lengthy story just hoping someone can relate to this stress!
