what is this middle name obsession?

no one has ever called me by my middle name, or uses my middle name. i dont call anyone by their first and middle name. 
but i see so many people trying to decide on first names by what the middle name would be. unless youre planning on using your childs middle name as a first name, just care about what people will actually call them. 
same goes with concerns over initials.

sure you want something that flows, but i just dont get it.

Middle names were used by my family when you done goofed lol I think middle names are important but I’ll decide the first name first and then choose a meaningful middle name that sounds nice. I have to make sure it rolls off the tongue so that when I yell it, I don’t trip over the syllables 😂

Initials is more about what it could spell, if your child was called David Isaac Charles King (or whatever) his initials would be DICK. So I believe that's the reason people are funny about initials.
Middle names can be a traditional thing, like a family name. It can also give the child another option of a name to be called by. I went to school with a girl called Elsbeth, I think that's quite a pretty name, she hates it and chose to go by her middle name. Everyone, teachers included, called her Lois. For me middle names just give the child a choice of what to go by, especially if they don't like their first name or share their name with a close friend they might choose to go by the middle name instead.

Mine Intials are G.N.T and With my first child My S/O and I were not married. so I wanted to her to have my last name and my middle intial and her first name to have the same initial as my S/O it just so happens her Initials spells his nickname A.N.T and his name is Anthony! I just followed suit with the next too! Then my little sister passed away and i wanted to incorporate her name in my next 2 so their names start with R and since I have 3 kids First intial and two with R now i feel pressured to do another R! I dont know! 😲

My dad goes by his middle name. I know loads of people who use their middle names, especially if their first name is unusual. My husband has always used his middle initial for work. 
Just because I don’t use my kids’ middle names all the time doesn’t mean I’m just going to name them without thinking about the meaning and sound.

In my family, you get full named when you’re in trouble... first middle if you’re on the verge of trouble.  
My sil initials are CAC and she got called Caca in school at lot.  She’s 33 now and still talks about it.  You wouldn’t think kids would have made that connection but taking into account what the middle name spells is a good idea. 
I went to school with a girl named Bobby Jo (first & middle) and there was a lot of talk about her being a slut because her initials were BJ (blow job).  Kids are mean. 
My husband has unisex first and middle names so it is impossible to tell on paper if he is male or female... it helps if I want to yell at bill providers in his name (I just say I’m him and they believe me).  But he hates it or course.  Being mistaken for a girl every year on the first day of school would do that to any guy. 
For the above reasons, I am VERY careful about what my future baby’s names will be and how they line up together.

im talking about people who cant decide on a first name they like bc they dont have a middle name

i use my middle name regularly and my middle initial is in everything related to my job. my initials are also not infrequently used when signing contracts. as for my children, since they are getting their father's last name, it's important to me that they carry some of my family's history in their middle names. it's harder to have them as first names since we wanted them both to have first names that wouldn't be too foreign (I'm an immigrant married to a native Norwegian)
