Birth control and miscarriage?

Question

I'm just about to start taking the birth control pill, but when I confessed this to someone they freaked out at me telling me that I may never be able to conceive or that of I can, I'll only ever miscarry. To me this sounds like total bull, but now I'm scared. I do want to have children some day, but my boyfriend and I are still in college and don't want to be parents yet--birth control seems like the right option. Thoughts?

Sounds like your friend is not only NOT a doctor, but woefully misinformed. I was on birth control for over 7 years and am currently 26 weeks pregnant with my little boy. After getting off the pill, my dr recommended that I wait for at least 3 months to rebuild my uterine tissue (the pill thinned it out and increased the risk of miscarriage for a very short period of time), but after that she said to go for it!

I took several different kind of oral BCP for around seven years. We conceived the first month trying, I'm now 28 weeks with a healthy baby boy.

That's a load of crap. I was on bc for years and my husband and I conceived on the second month I was off the pill. It's different for everyone, but it doesn't make anyone at risk for anything.

It's total bull. I've been on three separate BC methods (the pill, Depo, and the IUD) since I was 17. I'm 31 weeks pregnant now.

I had implanon and it greatly affected me trying to conceive. My hormones were out of whack. One of the reasons I had a MC and than get in progesterone shots because of this. But not everyone is the same and it seems I am that 1% lol

I think that may be stretching it- but honestly I have heard a lot of stories about not being able to conceive again after being on birth control. I personally hate the birth control pill but if it's your best option I would say do a lot of good research to come to the best decision possible :) Good luck!

Women have been taking birth control pills for 55 years and having babies afterward. They're one of the most thoroughly studied products on the market. Unfortunately, they're also misunderstood by a large portion of people.

Thats a crock! ! They are lying to you!! If that were true I would not have 5 neices and three nephews!

I do however think that the mirena iud is better than the pill. I hated pills and shots. With mirena they putbitvin and your good for up to 5 years and it can be removed anytime.

Also it is your body! No one can tell you what to do! Glad you are trying to be responsible!  Good for you!! So glad there are still responsible people out there!

Your friend is confused. There are no studies demonstrating any links between taking hormonal birth control pills and fertility issues. No need to worry.
