Bassinet or crib??

Question

As a FTM, I'm getting overwhelmed by all these baby items..all the choices..so to the experienced mommas, should I get a bassinet or just go straight for the crib? I'm a bit torn..
UPDATE: thank you ladies for your recommendations! I found a bassinet on amazon "delta beginnings" that is going for $39, so I bought that. I just like the thought of my newborn being close to me a night time until she's ready to be transitioned to her crib. Again, thank you all!

For our first we bought a Graco pack n play with a bassinet and  change table attachment. Our son slept in that first and then in the pack n play with the mattress raised till he was 3 months old. Then we moved him to his crib in his own room. We will be doing the same with #2.

Depends on your preferences! We wanted baby to sleep in his own room, so we just did a crib - but also had a rock and play for occasional bedside sleeps.

I wanted my babies in my room, so did a bassinet until they outgrew it. My 1st then went to his room, but with my second, I put a pack n play in our room and he slept in that until he was 10 mo old.. now hes in his crib.

We have both.
On the first few months we’re going to get our son to sleep in our room & at 6 months I’m hoping to transition him to the cot by then.

With my 3 year old, she was a noisy sleeper, and every little coo and noise she made woke me up.  So, she went straight to the crib in her room.  I just knew for feedings at night, I would be up and in her room.  We had a rock n play, and a pack n play if I decided it wasn’t working.  I say, you’re probably going to have to feel it out a bit at first.  You don’t necessarily need to buy a bassinet, but I highly recommend at least having a pack n play in the house.  You can always set that up quickly in your room.  And you may end up using that for other reasons, like naps, safe place to play while you’re cooking, etc.  Good luck!

We did both. We didn’t get a fancy bassinet or anything since they’re only in it for the first 3 months. We got lucky and found a $140 one on mark down at Babies r us for $40.  I’ve also heard of people using their playpens as a bassinet

Crib for sure. Once they get older they won’t fit in a bassinet/be able to climb right out of it. For our first she slept in a rock n play next to our bed for the first 2 or 3 months. Then we moved the rock n play in her room and she slept in it in there for a month or so, but we didn’t turn it on to rock so she’d get used to falling asleep without motion. Then we transitioned her to her crib around 4 months. She’s 16 months now and sleeps like an angel. We plan on doing the same thing with baby #2.

We planned on having our daughter sleep in her crib right away. Once we came home from the hospital she slept in her crib for a night or 2 then wanted nothing to do with it. So we borrowed a bassinet from a family member and she slept in there but in her room until she out grew the bassinet. Our room is very close to hers so we didn't feel the need to have her sleep in our room

We’re just doing a crib. She’ll be Jen our room with us for quite some time and I don’t see the point of the extra costs of the bassinet and P&P.; We’ll probably get a P&P; for travel down the road, but not for sleeping in our room.
