over feeding baby?

I feel like I'm over feeding my baby thanks to dad wanting to feed her every time she cries. She's 5wks & has started to eat 5,6 some times 6.5oz, she's been like this for about a 3/4 days. I'm upset that her dad got her off track from her schedule. Idk if she maybe going through a growth period or what but she cries till she gets more & then she's fine. At birth she was 4lbs 14oz  & now I'm guessing she's at 6lbs since the last time we went to her check up ( 2/13 ) she was 5lbs 15oz.

You can’t overfeed a baby. They aren’t glutinous beings yet-meaning they don’t eat just to eat. They genuinely eat because they’re hungry. I’ve learned with my five week old there is no schedule. She eats when she wants. Sometimes that’s only 2 ounces. Other times it’s 6. Let her eat! Cluster feeding is a thing.

bevaucy daughter is 6 weeks. Sometimes she will eat 2 ounces. Sometimes she will eat as much as 6. Sometimes the feedings are an hour apart. Sometimes they're 4 hours apart. And there is no corolation between time and amount. I asked my Ped with my first baby about this. He said he always hated the hospital telling you to feed every three hours because even though they shouldm't go much longer than three hours in the beginning too many people assume that because it hasn't been three hours they are crying for some other reason. Which yes, that can be true. But babies go through spurts where they eat more or less and more frequent or farther apart depending on where they are in their development. I would say if she isn't spitting up her milk then she was hungry. This is the way I had it explained to me, when you are hungry do you make yourself wait to eat until the 3 hour interval is up? If you are thirsty can you only drink something at a specific time? Yes us as adults are taught the basic rule of breakfast when you get up, lunch midday, and dinner in the evening. But babies have zero schedule at this young of an age. My sister brought her boys home from the hospital and would let them cry and cry because she would say there is no way they are hungry, it's only been an hour or two. And I always tried to ask her if she was hungry would she wait another 2 hours? I know this sounds mean and I totally don't mean it that way. I know having a baby leaves you scratching your head and confused more than we like to admit. Just wanted to share the perspective that was shared with me. One thing I did have to help my husband with (since I am home all day with baby girl and he is not) is how to destinguish between her hungry cry, her wet diaper cry, and her gas pain cry. Once he got better at reading her he became less reliant on a bottle as a fix-all and started trying to make her comfortable when she wasn't actually hungry. A lot of babies will want to eat when their tummy hurts because they mistake gas pain for hunger.

You can’t over feed a baby.. if she spits up then it’s too much but she’s growing.. btw you want her to gain an ounce every day. My daughter is a preemie baby(6weeks early)  and she just turned 11weeks(so she’s technically only 5weeks old for what she eats and does) and she’ll eat anywhere from 4-6oz and she’s definitely isn’t on a schedule..

My daugher is 6 weeks she drinking 5 oz at bed time i give her 6 sometimes she onky drink 4 but it literally every 3 hrs doctor said she great snd nothing to worry about i thought maybe she was being overfed nope doc said she good

If she's spitting it up then it's too much. Otherwise, you are fine and she probably needs more because of growing! 💗
