Not doing enough?

Question

I have a 4 month old and I feel like I am not teaching, reading, stimulating him enough. I want him so learn and retain as much as possible, words, colors etc but I find myself doing chores around the house, holding him but not really engaging in learning very much. Can you mommies tell me what u do with your wee one to help learn. Or am I too worried at this point? I do read him books but should I be implementing other things? I don't want him to be delayed!

I set up my baby where she can see me at all times. If I’m cleaning the kitchen then I set her in her dock a tot on the island and sing if I’m doing dishes and if I’m wiping things down then I talk to her about each object and the colors of it and I’ll show it to her and let her feel it. It def keeps her engaged and interested while I’m doing everything so it’s a win win so far

I feel the same way. Other people tell me that’s ridiculous, at this point all they want to do is observe us. Come to think of it, that is her favorite thing to do.

You sound like you’re doing great, mama! I always try to keep in mind that babies are typically overstimulated and under active. Do you have a front facing baby carrier? Wearing baby around the house while doing chores or running errands provides plenty for baby to observe and process and narrating these daily activities develops baby’s language skills. Dancing, singing, and taking walks outside while baby wearing can help balance the monotony if the everyday activities but remember, these seemingly mundane tasks provide tons of sights and sensations for baby and it’s easy to make them fun and engaging for both of you!

I feel the same way, but I try. I do it until she has had enough. I try to read to her, but it’s barely anything because she’s not in the right mood/time. I try to do tummy time as much as possible and work with her to roll over, but she’s not a fan of being on her tummy. I feel horrible because I feel like I should try harder, but I do everything around the house with her, if I can. My mom and mother in law watch her during the week and they work with her on these things with her. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s okay. Just being around them, showing them around and talking to them is engaging enough. There’s so much stuff and they can get overstimulated. I love my time that I get to just relax with my baby. You do what you feel is best.

If I need to get some housework done I babywear and tell him what I’m doing as I go along, but I don’t go too mad on housework at all. I used to hoover every day now it gets done maybe once a week and there are always dishes piled up. Make the most of your baby and drop some housework as they won’t be little for long

Can you do chores when he’s napping? When my LO is up I try to be fully engaged with her. I sing, read to her, talk, play etc.
