Is it okay to wear converses to prom?

I originally had a pair of really pretty heels that I intended to wear to prom, but the buckle broke and I had to take them back. I tried to look for another pair, but they were all really high. I’m not used to walking in tall heels. I would be in pain all night if I got some. I can’t wear flats because my heel is very narrow, which makes them not stay on my feet. My dress is long and poofy, so what my shoes look like aren’t really important as you can’t even see them. My boyfriend’s family suggested wearing comfortable shoes like converses because of that reason while my mom still wants me to wear fancy heels. I don’t know what to do
