Outfit help!?!

This is a pretty random request, but I’m at a total loss. My mother-in-law just informed me that the casual family dinner we were supposed to be going to at her house this Sunday (as in 2 days away) has now turned into an engagement party with a large guest list, and that formal attire is required. I don’t have anything that is formal that fits me and 2 days isn’t enough notice to order anything ☹️ 
What I do have is a few loose knee length “swing” style black dresses. These are quite casual, jersey type material (planning on taking them to Kauai for our baby moon next month), but I literally don’t have anything else that would work - and no decent maternity clothes stores nearby. 
Any suggestions on how I could dress up such a casual dress? It’s also going to be fairly cold, so I’m thinking about trying to find some patterned tights and maybe a pretty cardigan... but not sure if that will fit in with formal attire 😩 I can’t picture myself with my husband in a suit and tie wearing anything I own.

Black on black on black, always classic. If you have a black suit jacket of some sort it will break the eye on the material of the actual dress. If you have a statement necklace throw it in!  Then I’d pile my hair on top of my head in the most elegant top knot I could muster. Finish it with red lipstick. At that point, NO ONE is going to notice the material of the dress. I would recommend solid black on black. Black tights with the dress and add in some silver or gold jewelry and a matching clutch. Anything in solid back looks formal enough at this point in pregnancy lol

You don't need to buy maternity... normal clothes will still work. I find maternity clothing to be a bit if a joke really... but that's just me...

That’s so inconsiderate. I’d suggest a fun bright colored necklace and maybe some fun bracelets. Add tights if it’s cold and some boots. Good luck but I don’t think anyone will notice. I have a navy blue wrap style dress with gold chain lacing at the top and it’s perfect for casual and semi formal. Maybe a stretchy nylon fabric will look nice.

Curls or a bun with some nice dangling earrings, and a black dress from like TJ Maxx or Ross with a cardigan or jacket would be fine. You’re pregnant it’s fine! ☺️

Do you have a Ross nearby? They have super cute maternity stuff and they always have LOTS of dresses that may not be maternity but would still work. I’ve gotten so many cute maternity things there.

As a pregnant person, you totally get a pass on dress code! Hell, you could show up in sweats and everyone would just be looking at your bump anyways :)
I would wear the dress with pretty tights, a chunky necklace, and heels. If you have a blazer instead of a cardigan, that would dress it up a bit. Style your hair, put on bold lipstick, and ta da! You’ll look fab.
