Tips for coping with shots?

My 2 month old baby boy goes in for his checkup and first round of shots on Monday and I’m nervous that he’ll be so upset or not feel well. Any tips/advice?

I felt the same way for my daughter she just turned 3 months. I cried more than she did. she screamed for about 30secs and calmed down after I picked her up and consoled her. she didn't have any side effects after her vaccines. good luck! Just stay with him, and try to stay calm. they can sense when your tense

I worked as a pediatric RN & have given lots of shots/IV’s to babies... one thing that helps when they’re this little is to dip a pacifier is some sugar water & pop it in their mouth right as the nurse gives the shot (maybe a half-second before). With my son, I just put a tiny drop of infant liquid Tylenol on the end of his pacifier. The sugar helps them to focus on sucking, which takes their minds off the pain. Hope this helps!

Honestly, I handle shots worse than our daughter does 😂😂 I totally cried when I saw her tear up at her first round. It was so horrible. But I kept a bottle ready in my bag as well as some Tylenol for after as well if she needed it. A bottle typically helps with calming and distracting her from the pain while we walk out to the car. But honestly, she’s just fine the moment I pick her up and cuddle her. It’s super quick!

If you breastfeed (no judgement if not), feed your baby right afterward. The crying will last .01 seconds.
If you bottle feed, you may be able to do the same - I just haven’t tried it! I’m sure it will help too! :)

Honestly, I was so worried about them.. they were not that bad. He didn’t even cry for a minute, he whimpered a tiny bit. I breastfed him while the nurse gave him his vaccinations. He tended up a lot and cried for a few seconds and that was it. I’m 100% positive it was because I was nursing him. Highly recommend 👌🏼 or if you aren’t nursing, you could try a bottle too!

I'm not gonna sugar coat shots day was hard for us!!! he was so fussy, barely ate, I could tell his legs hurt him. I literally held him and he slept on me all day. I only put him down twice to pee. I didn't even eat all day because every time I moved he cried out in pain. my Dr said only Tylenol and only if he gets a fever of 100.4 or higher. he ended up spiking a fever that evening, I gave him the recommended infant Tylenol dose (our ped told us how much based on his weight) and he slept that night for 6 hours straight!! longest he had ever slept at night. lol. the next day he was back to his bubbly, smiling self! we just had our shots done Thursday. it's also not recommended to give pain reliever BEFORE the shots as it can make them less effective. it might be a hard day but just give baby lots of cuddles and lovins!!! if you nurse, nurse baby right after, that also helped. our ped let us stay in the room as long as we needed till he stopped crying and I could nurse him to calm him down. good luck mama!!

My son had his 2 months shots two weeks ago.  I too was worried that he'd be miserable and actually turned away while his father held him and got ready for it. He didn't even cry,  just kinda fussed a bit but he was ok and he didn't get a fever.  His leg was sore a few hours later and I just did warm compress but he was fine.  We go back next week for another shot,  since I'm not letting him get all at one time,  we're spacing them out. I'm hoping he takes it the same way.
