Is this culture appropriation?

Let’s start with saying I’m fully Eastern European. I’m white. My boyfriend is Chinese born English but has only Asian blood running in his family. We’ve been talking about Lunar Year and how he’d like to celebrate it by visiting his grandparents in Hong Kong and possibly attending one of the festivals. I asked him if it wouldn’t be weird for me, a white girl to celebrate it with him and he disagreed saying that I could also wear a Qipao, since I’m understanding of the history and origin of it he said it’d be great to celebrate the Lunar Year wearing the traditional clothing. However I’m a bit worried that this might be considered as a culture appropriation by many, and I would not like to upset native people of that country.
