Does it work?

Question

Do any of YALL try castor oil before or read about it does it really work? Does it really give you contractions or help with the cervix? I just brought it and I wanna make sure it work be4 I use it I be 37 weeks on Tuesday. Do this very help induce labor?

My midwife told me to start using evening primrose supplements 500-1000mg starting at week 36 to help soften the cervix. It doesn't necessarily start labor contractions but it helps get the cervix ready but softening it. You can take it orally or poke a hole in it and insert it vaginally. I haven't tried it yet bc I'm only 35 weeks along but I'm excited to try it.

I tried it with my third, two weeks before due date it just made me poop. On my due date I took it again and went for a walk, only got about two blocks before I had to send my sister back for a vehicle, had her about five hours later. So I'd say it can help but I doubt I'll use it this time unless I get desperate.

Most of what I heard is that it makes you poop and have stomach cramps, but actually starting labor is a toss up. Seems like for some it works, some not. I have, however, heard great things about evening primrose!

Just tried it over the weekend and nothing. I've had three babies so far and I'm a doula as well. From personal experience and my training I've learned that unless baby is ready to come inducing simply will not work. I've even seen hospital method of inductions fail or work poorly because baby wasn't ready.
