A little pissed with Glow....
Glow advertises its “glow fertility program” non stop. They have several posts about it and they keep sending me notifications about it especially now that it’s available in my city. . I didn’t think much about it because I was still hoping to either conceive naturally or give an IUI a shot. Unfortunately for me, our doctor informed us that an IUI would be a waste of money and the best bet for our situation would be IVF.
So I log onto Glow and request a free consultation. In order to get one, I had to answer questions (no big deal). Once I got to the end of the questions, it said “IVF can be pretty expensive. Have you thought about how you are going to pay for it?” Then gave links to suggested ways to pay for it. I looked at the link and thought “thanks Glow, that’s useful information” (not being sarcastic here). I didn’t see anything other than the link for ways to pay for IVF and figured maybe I would be contacted by Glow later regarding the free consultation.
Days go by and I nothing.... So I did the questionnaire again.... and again... and again. Always ending up with the “IVF is pretty expensive” And the links for how to pay for it. So I did the questionnaire once more, only this time I changed my annual household income. Only then did I get the “Congratulations you qualify for the Glow Fertility Program”.... Ohhhhhhh I get it....I don’t make enough to qualify for the program.
Well guess what Glow.... I HAVE thought about how I will pay for IVF. I HAVE made plans to make sure we can afford it. My husband and I DONT spend EVERY LAST DIME to our names and we actually DO have money saved up for things like this. Do we have the full amount? NO! But guess what... We’ve come up with a PLAN to get the rest. It’s infuriating that I don’t “qualify” for the Glow fertility program just because my husband and I don’t “make enough”.
We live a comfortable life. We don’t struggle to make it from one pay check to the next. We’ve thought about and planned for a baby for TWO years. I understand they are concerned about people having children and not being able to afford it. I understand that IVF is expensive and it’s not the smart decision for everyone, but maybe you shouldn’t assume we can’t afford it because our yearly income isn’t what you think it should be.
It was difficult enough coming to terms with needing IVF. It is so expensive and our insurance won’t pay a dime towards it. It took an arm and a leg to convince my husband it’s worth a shot. Do we feel comfortable spending that much money? Not really.... It won’t be an easy thing to do, but we’ve got it figured out. Isn’t the Glow fertility program supposed to help us save money? If that’s the case, why won’t you help people like me out? Why do we need to make 60,000 a year to qualify????
Ok rant over....
