Please explain ring of fire ?? 39w+3D ?!

Question

I keep hearing ring of fire ? Can someone explain this to me ? I’m getting the idea it happens during vaginal birth , sometimes can be felt through and epidural . What I’m having a hard time figuring out is what causes it ? Babies head ? Babies shoulders ? Tearing ? Etc .

It's when baby's head comes out.  Most people say it's horrible.  I just gave birth a few days ago without pain meds or an epidural and I honestly don't recall that part being so bad.  For me pushing was the easy part.

It was described to me like this... Take your fingers on each corner of your mouth and pull as hard as you can till your lips are burning and when you think your mouth can’t stretch anymore it gets stretched further 😂 I’ve just come to terms with birth is going to hurt but it won’t last forever and I’ll have my sweet baby afterwards.... although this is my first so it could be so much worse or not as bad as I’m thinking 😂 we shall see I guess.

It’s when the head is coming out and depending on your pain tolerance, it’s honestly not that bad. The best part is, every ounce of pain goes away as soon as baby comes out completely, or at least that’s how it was for me.

As others said, itswhen the head is coming out... it’s the moment when everything is being stretched the most, and then everything else just slides out! If you do an epidural, you feel it, but it isn’t awful. And you’re in the middle of pushing, so you’re focused on pushing instead. And after, so much relief, and holding your baby (!!!!!!).  Childbirth isn’t like getting a massage, but don’t overhype it and psych yourself out or into thinking it will be worse than it is. 💪🏼

When the baby’s head is passing through the vagina. I didn’t feel t with my first (epidural) but did with my second (no epidural). Yes it hurts but it means baby is on the way out and you’ll see baby soon.

The pain is different for everyone. The Doctors will stop pumping the epidural right before pushing so you can identify where you need to push. You will still have pain relief but not as numb. The ring of fire is when the baby is crowning. When you feel the pain it gives you that much more incentive to push him or her out. Then when baby is out, it’s immediate release and no pain. It’s very strange. Good luck!

I only felt it once,  with my first and that's when I tore...it wasn't so bad either.
