What should I do with my dog

I have a baby on the way. 29 weeks pregnant. And I recently got my dog spayed she always be loving and friendly never attacked anyone she doesn’t even rough play with me. But ever since she got spayed she been really aggressive. She went into the bathroom and started taking paper from the trash I went to her and ask her to drop it this went on for a few mins and she wouldnt do it so I try to get the dirty paper out her mouth and she just bit me

Now this worries me cause I don’t wanna have my baby around a dog who can possibly attack him and it hurts me cause I love her and to see her become like this makes me think of maybe having to give her up. What should I do

Usually dogs do this when there's something wrong with them, maybe in pain, talk to your vet to get a health check first, if nothing then try training

Female dogs are very good at sensing a pregnancy especially if it’s their owner. But usually if their behavior changes they just become more protective of you. If you just got her fixed and she’s acting aggressive that could be a sign that something is wrong. She might still be in pain due to the surgery, she could have an infection as well or may just need a different type of pain med. I would get her checked and if they don’t find that anything is wrong I would look into getting her trained if her aggressive behavior continues or try to find a good home for her that does not include children. As far as a dogs being protective, We have a 2 year old German Shepard and she became highly protective of me while I was pregnant. We used the time before the baby came to make sure she knew that we didn’t need her to protect us. We are the Alfa’s. If we let her believe in the slightest that we need protecting it could cause aggression towards other people and we don’t want that. Still to this day sometimes we catch her guarding the baby  (sitting right up against the crib with ears straight up, or sitting on our feet with feet straight up while we hold the baby) when she tries this we tell her NO. And then tell her to go lay down. This is telling her that we don’t need protecting and it prevents her from becoming aggressive when we have visitors. Anyway, if your dogs behavior suddenly changes after surgery, new meds, new food, etc. it usually indicates that something might be wrong and they may need to visit their vet.

Professional dog training by an experienced trainer. I’d also start limiting your dog to the backyard/certain areas of the house before the baby is born- you don’t want the dog to get upset when all of a sudden it’s not allowed in the bedroom for example. Also take advice from the trainer about your dog’s suitability around children. As hard as it would be I would prioritise my child’s safety over my dog.

Is this the first time she did this? Is she on any pain medication from her surgery? I’d recommend a trainer before the baby comes, preferably one that comes to your house.

Yikes.. I would talk to your vet, and a professional trainer to assess what the deal is. if the dog shows any sign of aggression towards your child you should find a home with no children. I don’t usually agree with rehoming other than safety reasons. After this incident I would never leave the baby in a place the dog could get to without you in arms reach. Things happen so quickly.
