They aren't genetically close enough to you and it's something in your brain that causes you to fall more attracted to someone so close to you. It's how we're wired. In people's subconscious minds, they search for someone with so many common qualities with yourself. It's because, yes we are intelligent humans, but we still have animal instincts. It's actually common in history for 2nd or 3rd cousins to marry to keep the family name in heir. And surprisingly, in KY (where I live) it's legal to marry a 2nd or 3rd cousin.

when i first went down to mexico to visit family i went to a party. i met this guy and we hit it off. we were flirting and dancing.(Thank goodness we didnt kiss or anything) The next morning i wake up at my grandmas house. i get up and go down stairs. When i got down i saw the guy from the night before we both were SHOOK. we look at each other like "wtf are u doing here". Then my grandma comes in and was like "oh good you meet your cousin." the look on both our faces were priceless. He ened up being my second cousin. but honestly the rest of the trip there was kinda awkward whenever he was around. Since then ive gone to mexico 2 more times and it isnt awkward anymore. I find this to be a funny story.
