How do you make a long distance relationships work? 😬💏

I met a cute guy a couple days ago and we really hit it off 😭 he lives in another state (neighbors) and we’ve been talking on the phone, we met on Facebook. HE’S NOT A CATFISH I SWEAR 😂😂. He’s 3 years older, I’m 19 turning 20 and he’s 23 but yeah he’s planning a trip to come see me for a couple days and I’m excited. He’s really upfront and honest, he’s telling me he wouldn’t want to be just friends with me and that I’m someone he would be with so that’s gives me a sense of clarity. I know long distance is a lot of work but if you’re committed then I see no problem in making it work! In the future we may just live together...who knows ✨✨
Have you had a long distance relationship and how did it go? What advice would you give to me? 💓

I’ve been in 2 long distance relationships before. There are things to consider when thinking about being in one.
Trust. It takes A LOT of trust for a long distance relationship. At first you have those butterflies still when you message them or talk to them over the phone, but after a while it gets hard not to wonder what they might be doing and thinking the worst case scenario. 
Communication. Just like in any other relationship communication is a MUST. And I don’t mean the “just keeping in touch” kind of communication. I’m talking about REAL communication, such as between arguments, what’s going on in your life and theirs, then understanding how to communicate properly to make the relationship work. 
Understanding. Understand that the other person has a life too. Work, school, household chores, bills to pay, errands to run, friends of their own to hang out with, family, and if they have kids to take care of. You guys both have to understand that you can’t put each other first EVERY SINGLE time. There are things in life that HAVE to be done. 
Sexual needs and wants. Yes, I’m going here. Because believe it or not, after a while of nudes and dirty talk back and forth it’s only going to make you guys want to do the dirty deed even more. And when one of you guys THINK that you’ve found the slightest connection to someone else that’s actually close you can easily slip with those sexual urges. 
Commitment. Staying committed in a long distance relationship can be a struggle in itself. Sometimes not being able to touch, kiss, hug, cuddle, or just be around that person in general can really get you down, and can make you question why you’re even trying to make things work this way. It can really make you want to give up at times. So a lot of commitment is required, because it does get super rough at times. Trust me. This isn’t just on your side either. It will be the same way on his end of the relationship as well. 
There’s more than just these things, but I feel that these were most of the struggles for both of my long distance relationships. No, I’m not in either one of those anymore. I am extremely codependent when it comes to love. So long distance relationships don’t work out for me the way of like them to. I think it would work better for an independent person. Because a codependent person like me needs physical love and affection and most of all I love giving that physical love and affection. If I can’t then I feel worthless in a relationship because I am unable to do what I am best at in a relationship, which is showing that I care physically. This doesn’t mean sexually. lol. I’m a very faithful person in a relationship too. So when I feel the sexual needs of my partner aren’t met and I can’t do anything about it I break down and  get that fear that they may cheat on me. 
If you guys can work something out where you visit one another I don’t think sexual needs and wants would be a problem.lol.

My husband and I live 1,200 miles away for over a year. LDR are so much work - there were times when I didn’t want to do it anymore because it was so hard, but he wouldn’t let me give up. Make time for each other *every day* It’s easy to let him get forgotten when you’re busy with life.

I met my fiancé while we were both on vacation in Costa Rica. I’m from Toronto and he’s from Spokane WA. I never thought we could have a relationship because of our distance plus the fact we live in different countries. But he fought so hard for our fling to continue past our vacation, and we managed to fly to each other every month for 6 months straight. Then I took the plunge and moved to the west coast to be closer to him. We still live in different countries, we currently live 3 hours apart from one another, but that is so much better than a 12 hour day of flights and layovers. Now we manage to see each other almost every weekend and hopefully we will get married soon to be able to start the immigration process to be able to live together. Long distance takes a lot of effort and trust, but if you’re both completely committed then it is totally manageable and worth it :)

Hello! I’m in the same situation i’m 16 and my boyfriend just turned 17, i live in France and he lives in New York City, we’ve been together for over a month and a half now, we know each other since November 2017. We call/ videocall everyday and we just trust each other, so i’ll say just call and trust each other a plane tucket cost 600€ for us to meet so i would say just talk for a while and really get to know each other and why not call and stuff like that and if you can afford to meet each other go for it but somewhere where’s there’s people! It works if you make it work. I met my boyfriend last year and he lived 2,000 miles away, he moved within months to where I was and we now live together. However this was very unusual for him to move after mere months, when he previously never even left his home state. But we knew we loved each other and wanted to be together.
