Nuchal translucency test, why or why not?

First time mommy here. I've been presented with having it done the next time I go in at 13 weeks and need more information about it. Was your test accurate? did insurance cover it? if so what was your insurance?

I had it. I wanted to know if there were any issues instead of it being a surprise so I could have resources in place at birth.  My cousin opted out of it (healthy 22 year old) and her daughter was born with DS.  She was completely overwhelmed when she was born with all the stuff she has to do and wish she knew so she could have had the resources in place before birth. I’m in Canada and was covered by my insurance.

it's noninvasive and is a chance to see the baby, so I did it. plus, if there had been an issue, it's early enough to make a plan of action (line up specialists, do research) if it won't affect your decision to carry to term.

I had my NT done & found out my baby had a very bad case of spina bifida. I will be getting another one with this pregnancy as well.

It’s pretty common now and accurate. It was for us. We have anthem and everything was covered, even the gender results. It took about 3 days to get all the informal back as well.

most insurances will cover the sequential NT test. its two blood draws, one at 13 and another at 16 with an ultra sound to measure the fluid in the babies neck. accuracy is a hard thing to say because they do get false positives.
