🐶 Best time to neuter? 🐶

Hi ladies! Okay so I got my furbaby about a week ago (He is 9 weeks!) and I am planning on getting him neutered. My question is... when do you think is the right age to get your dog neutered? All answers/comments welcome!!! Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm a vet. You want to aim for 6 months. That is when most of their puppy teeth should be in. Sometimes a baby tooth won't fall out properly do we can deal with it while they are being neutered. Do not listen to other commenters on here and let it have puppies because "it's cute"...that is totally irresponsible and the exact attitude that results in so many dogs ending up in shelters.

Our pit bull/boxers brothers were neutered at 6 months! It helped calm them and milded the humping. But they still chewed and dug like crazy:)

The vets that will neuter/spay an animal under 6 months does not practice their field very well. Please let your pup fully grow before neutering. About 7/8 months is when they start hiking their leg so it's done before they start that habit

I have large breed dogs (female boxer and male lab mix) and out vet told us not to have them foxed until they were finished growing. Otherwise, the stitches could tear (especially for the female as boxers grow very quickly). Best thing to do would be ask your vet when you go for puppy shots.

we got our lab done at 5 months, they say anytime around 6 months is fine! (we got him done a month early because I was having surgery when he was around 6 months!)

It's best around 6 months to a year. That way for most dogs they are fully grown or nearly fully grown so stitches won't pop open. And it's easier for the vet to do the procedure. My vet has said depending on size of the god when they are less than 6 months their is sometimes more complications and it's harder on the pet when they are that young. You can talk to your vet about the specific bread but I would siguested 6 months to a year to get it done.

Totally agree with Casey! But definitely, definitely neuter him! It helps to keep him calm as a grown dog, has health benefits, and if he gets out and happens into a lady dog, he's not going to make any unwanted puppies!! He's gorgeous though!!! :D
