Is it rude to ask someone their pronouns?

I hope this doesn’t come across as insensitive, I’m genuinely trying to find this out. We just got someone new at my job and on the schedule when they started it was a male’s name. Since then, it has been changed to a female name. They’re very open about being trans but hasn’t said which pronouns to use. Is it rude to ask them? I’ve stuck with they/them just because I don’t know if they use she/her. I don’t want to offend anyone though, so is it rude to ask?

No its not rude to ask. If you don't know/are not sure, u should ask. That's literally the only way you'll know.

Not rude to ask. It would be rude say, to loudly ask someone in public what gender they are, putting them on the spot and potentially embarrassing and outing them. To ask in private or discreetly shouldn’t be an issue though. It’s more rude to misgender someone.

I just call someone by what I feel they are based off appearance. If they have an issue with it and ask me to change it, I gladly will.

If they’re open about being trans I wouldn’t think it was rude. If they’re talking about being trans next time you could always casually work it into the conversation. I wouldn’t call them out in front of everyone in a huge client meeting, for example.

I don't think so but I have zero experience to go on so definitely wait for another comment. I was going to say though, my pastor added pronouns to her email signature. She's not trans but I think it's becoming more popular to be upfront with people so there's no confusion. It's a step in the inclusive direction I think.

It's fine to ask, probably will be appreciated actually. It's nice to get in the habit of asking anyone really to normalize it. Say your own and such too.

I appreciate it when people ask because if they said she I would be uncomfortable. I wouldn't be mad cause they didn't know, but asking is always better. ☺️
