D&C on Friday :( any advice?

Question

Well after 2 1/2 weeks after finding no heartbeat, nothing seems to be happening so a D&C is now scheduled for Friday. It stopped growing at around 7 weeks.

Sad and nervous. Second miscarriage (first was natural). 29 and TTC #1.

Any advice for the D&C?

Back at home after the procedure - it was super quick. A little crampy but otherwise okay so far. Resting with our two dogs, TV and my husband. Thanks everyone!

Make sure you eat something anything you can stomach 8 hours before. Worth waking up because grief is hard enough without adding extreme hunger to it. I woke up at 4am (wasn't able to sleep anyways) to have a strawberry smoothie and made pain more manageable when there was something in my stomach. Heating pad a must and que up movies you can zone out with afterwards. I just had one last week (my second and no baby yet and I'm 30) and the physical recovery isn't bad it's the emotional trauma that takes time. So sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you and nothing can really prepare you for this...It is by far one of the worst things Ive ever gone through. I had my first miscarriage in Feb, also at 7 weeks and I'm 29 as well. The actual d&c procedure was very quick, the feelings I had afterward was the hard part. I felt as though my entire world had ended and my husband and I grieved and still to this day look back and hope we will never go through it again. This is not the end, there is hope and I pray you have your rainbow baby in your arms in the near future!!!

The actual procedure wasn't bad. For me, I was in a lot of pain afterward and I spent the next few days treating the pain and sleeping a lot. I was more focused on healing physically instead of emotionally. Then about 6 days after the procedure it all really hit me and I couldn't function, had to go home from work because I couldn't stop crying (crying in front of my students - not good). But overall I'm glad I had the procedure. I don't think I'm strong enough to have watched my little nine week old gummy bear come out naturally. That would have killed me.

Just relax. It was actually a very easy procedure. ask for stomach meds if you get queezy easily

Praying for you, I had a d&c last week, after my first pregnancy. It was physically a piece of cake for me (thi everyone's different) but emotionally very difficult to wade through. I had 6 days of knowing my baby was gone but still carrying him with me and I cherished each day. I tried to turn it into something special and not sad (even tho of course it is).

Some light pink spotting after surgery and then none! Hardly any pain, just took a few ibuprofen. Work on one day at a time.

Thank you everyone for the support and advice. I really appreciate it. It's easy to feel alone going through this for a second time and only 29. I think we'll do testing on the tissue to try and get some sort of answer on the issue. They've also ordered an RPL blood panel next before we start treatment again but so far all tests are normal beside a minor motility issue. Trying to figure it we'll do IUI again or progress to IVF w/ PGD.

My surgery isn't until 3:30PM Friday and I have been told to not eat anything after midnight tomorrow :P sounds like a recipe for hunger!

I had a D&C in January and miscarried naturally in May. I found the surgery to be much easier physically (light spotting and some painful cramping if I did too much the first few days), but harder emotionally. It was almost torture knowing it was the last night with the baby. I am so sorry you are going through this.

I am also trying to conceive my first. My first miscarriage was natural at 5 weeks. And my second was by d&c at 10'weeks. I was very nervous but physically it was not bad. A little cramping after. Emotionally it was very hard. Finding someone to talk to is important. I'm sorry you have to do this but It will be ok.
