Lawsuits, federal investigations, and angry employees
Article: Google isn't listening so its employees are suing by Katie Konger
I'm not copying and pasting from this article, but I provided the name of the article if anyone wants to take a look. The questions will be posted at the bottom.
Google has come under fire a lot especially after taking over YouTube and its decisions regarding that. The company is currently named as defendant in 300 federal court cases. There are lawsuits being launched ranging from wrongful termination to sexual harassment to wage gaps and google claims these lawsuits are a result of disgruntled employees. There are claims of discrimation against their white conservative males employees and paying women less than men. There's another claim that google fired a male for blowing the whistle on YouTube refusing to hire white and Asian men.
Cynics and Google are dismissing all of these things as disgruntled employees while being investigated by the US Labor Department, having a mass of of federal court cases and lawsuits, and concerns of shareholders. Since the publication Google employees have faced doxxing, harassment, and threats. The employees are saying their coworkers are weaponizing the HR department by baiting them into discussions about diversity then reporting them and management isn't listening. Employees are saying Google is engaging in censorship ans closing them off from certain political viewpoints.
So all in all there is A LOT going on at Google. A lot of claims and a lot of anger.
Questions:
-Google was seen as a huge advocate for diversity and progressive views at one point. Do you think that's still the case even with all their recent scandals including but not limited to what is mentioned in the post?
-Do you think the push for diversity has caused some backlash in regards to the claims of Google discrimiating against white conservative males?
-Do you think that legal action (lawsuits, court cases, federal investigations) are the only way to get a company to enact change?
