How long before engagement party?

Hi all!

My fiancé and I got engaged 3/16. He had a surprise party waiting for me right after he proposed with our closest family and friends. However, it wasn’t an engagement party, and a lot of people we love (extended family, friends) weren’t there because he had to keep it small so I wouldn’t catch on!

So, my mom and aunt want to throw us another engagement party and we’re thinking in August. That will be 5 months after engagement and 14 months before the wedding (11/16/19)

Is this timing weird? How long did you wait for an engagement party? I’m concerned it’s too long after. Idk about any of this stuff haha so your input is appreciated!
