Do I need an electric pump or just manual?

Question

I am only planning to pump for the occasional sitter or if my husband wants to bottle feed at some point. I work from home so won’t be away from my baby very often at all. Is an electric pump a waste? I know it’s free through my insurance but it seems silly to get one.  Would you definitely recommend a manual pump either way?

I would just get a free electric pump through your insurance if you can. That way you have it if you need it. Sometimes hand free pumping is necessary.

i used a manual at work and it sucked. its a lot of work even for one or two sessions. get the free electric one because things can happen.im a sahm who only works once a month so i didnt think a pump would be that important but i ended up needing to have surgery and the meds post op meant i couldnt bf for a week so i had to pump befpre for him to have a supply and duringg to keep supply

I had my first baby and had a lot of complications from my emergency csection so I was back and forth from the hospital. I did not plan on pumping but I had an electric pump, and it saved my life. It helped me produce mass amounts of milk even though the baby was not nursing for my husband to feed at home. Also when I returned home I could pump hands-free so I could do other things with baby or fold clothes.

Have you breastfed before? I only ask because I didn’t think I would even use a pump before I had breastfed. It was incredibly painful at first and I had to pump more often than I would have expected. I would get the electric pump in case you have a similar experience.
