Cigna DOES cover termination

Disclaimer-this was a PPO plan in NY in Jan 2018.

A few months back I had several of the worst days of my life. I was told my baby was incompatible with life due to anencephaly. I heard it confirmed by 2 other physicians. And then I saw the inside of an abortion clinic...

I hope this may save someone else stress and heartache. Confirm coverage with the insurance company beforehand, and then confirm it with the doctor’s office days before the procedure and take names. The office where I had my procedure in Jamaica, NY used an out of date website to check coverage and refused to call Cigna directly when I said it should be covered.

They forced me to pay $450 upfront, and then fought me almost daily for over 2 months in getting a refund. At times I considered just giving up on the refund so I wouldn’t be brought back to that awful day over and over again.

I was also forced to reschedule my procedure while IN the surgical room due to being on baby aspirin, and repeat the whole ordeal a few days later. Something that several other doctors told me seemed unnecessary.

These seem like small and silly things now, but on the most devastating and vulnerable day of your life you just want everything to go smoothly and to never set foot in that building again.

Good luck on your journeys. After almost 3 months I feel somewhat normal again. The first 6 weeks were the hardest.
