When do cervical checks usually start?

I’m 36 weeks exactly today and have my next appt on Tuesday, when i will be 36+6. At my 35 week appt last week they mentioned that I will get the GBS test done next week but didn’t mention cervical checks and I didn’t think to ask. Usually they are good about telling me what types of exams/tests they will do at the next appt so I’m guessing they won’t, but I also want to be mentally prepared in case they do.

Since you’ll already be undressed for the GBS, it’s reasonable that they could easily check you. I always have my patients the option if they wanted to be checked at that visit. Like others have said, there are some slight risks with a cervix check, and really no benefits except knowledge. And even if you are dilated at this point, you still won’t go into labor until your body is ready.

I only was checked during labour and even then it was only once. Had they offered earlier I would have declined. They are not necessary, painful and increase risk of infection.

You don't have to be checked if you don't want. I chose not to be until 39 weeks with my first and plan on doing that again. It didn't matter to me if I was dilated and when I did finally get checked nothing was happening and I was disappointed. But frequently they start at 36 weeks.

My doctor said at 38. I was checked at 35 in the hospital and it hurt like hell. I was going to ask for him to check me at 36, but I’m ok with 38 now, haha.

I was never checked during routine appointments. I only was checked when I went into triage. Every OB practice is different though

I'm also 36 weeks exactly today. got my GBS done today as well. no cervical check..  was told only needed if I was having symptoms..  but basically I won't be checked unless necessary
