Ok girls is this weird!?

So my first apt I found out I was 6w 5d. I was so excited I had a healthy one after a chemical. 
I took my phone out because I wanted to record the heart beat and they said they don't listen until the 20 week apt. Wtf?? 
I was so sad ... my sister said that was really weird because she's gotten to hear hers at the first apt. So has everyone I know. It made me really sad. 
I do have an apt when I'll be 8w 3d at a place that does ultrasounds and hoping everything is still really good to be able to hear the heartbeat. Then I have my second drs apt days after.

In all my first visits at 8 weeks I will get an ultrasound and see the heart beat not hear it. After the 12 weeks that’s when each visit I get to hear it. I own a home Doppler. And I was able to find my baby’s heart beat at almost 10 weeks. Takes a lot of practice.

I just had an appointment at 9 weeks (could of had it anywhere from 8-10) and they did an internal ultrasound. I didn’t get to hear the heartbeat but you could see the heart pumping on the screen. 
They told me they don’t do ultrasounds at 6 ( if healthy) cause if you got pregnant later than you thought there could be very little to see and that just causes stress.

I bought a doppler a was able to hear baby’s heartbeat this way. I didn’t hear it at the appointment either.

So it varies but definitely does not seem right to not hear/see anything in the first trimester. With my son at 8 weeks I heard his heartbeat, but I didn’t see him at all until 19 weeks. This time around, 7-8 years later but same OBGYN office, I will get an ultrasound at 10 weeks and one at 20, but I had my 8 week appointment and no Doppler/hearing the heartbeat. So things differ by area and change with time, but definitely odd. Doppler costs nothing for the doctor to just use as part of one of your standard appointments and 2 ultrasounds is the norm covered for even the most basic insurances. 
I would insist that they check on your baby before you are 5 months pregnant, but if you are comfortable just going to a private place then of course that works too! I’m sure your little one is doing just fine, but that’s still weird if them.

I got to hear mine at 7 weeks 1 day, but I was impatient so I ordered a Doppler and it came the day before my appointment and I actually got the heartbeat after less than 5 minutes of trying. I got lucky, but this definitely eased my mind after 2 miscarriages

I’ve been to the dr twice. Once at 6 weeks and the other at 9 weeks. I still haven’t heard the heart beat. I was able to see if moving but disappointed I couldn’t hear it.

I got to hear it at 6w6d, but maybe different practices to it differently.
