how were you able to leave? id like to hear a short summary brief of how it was like and how long you stayed. im currently in one for 4, almost 5yrs now. i cant find the courage or strength to leave at all. i have left 6x already.

Planned for weeks. Saved whatever money i could get hold of without it being noticed. Secretly packed my essentials/important things and clothes. I went when he was out at work. I arranged to meet a friend at a coffee shop about half a mile away. I reset and left my phone so he couldn’t contact me. I locked up and put my keys through the postbox. It was absolutely terrifying but I’m so glad I did it.

I packed everything I could carry while he slept, grabbed my son, and left. I called my dad who called me in a train ticket and had my mom pick me up at the train station upon arrival. They practically disowned me for moving away with mt ex but still jumped the second I said I needed out. We are a lot closer now. That was 9 years ago

I was very young when I first met my son's sperm donor. We lived together from the time I was 14 till 19 years old. He would threaten to kill me, slap me, throw me around, it was just a horrific amount of abuse that I should have not allowed. I had enough when he and someone I considered family decided they were going to start sleeping together. There is a silver lining to this story....after leaving him and pulling my head out of my ass...I met someone very special and we have now been together almost 5 years!!

Honestly I can't tell you how to leave him...or when...but when it's time and you are fed up, you will know. I wish you the best and please be careful.

7 years; like a dumbass I married him 2 months before I left him. It wasn’t all bad. He was (and still is) a functioning alcoholic and often didn’t remember inflicting any pain- mental or physical. 
I left one night, with my little brother, and went back only to square away the divorce papers and get my things. 
I hope you have a solid support system, the will to leave and stay gone and a safe place to do so.

He broke up with me because he felt we were moving too fast when HE was the one that brought up getting married and also said he would have had sex with me on the first date. He was verbally and mentally abusive. He'd make me feel bad if I didn't please him, I'd have to tell him "maybe" on anything sexual just to shut him up for a bit. He constantly asked me for money when he had more than me. He was always trying to grab my boobs or butt, and I eventually gave in and let him so he would leave me alone. He was always trying to shove his hand down my pants and made me grab/look at his dick. Because of him, there are parts of me I don't like and sex will most likely be very difficult. I left Easter service early for him bc we were going to see his fam. I didn't live with this guy or marry him  (THANK GOD) but it was extremely hard to let go, he told me he'd change and I believed him. Leave when he's not there. Get to family, close friends, SOMEONE, as long as you trust them. I promise you'll make it.

Together for 7 years, started saving money in November 2016 and moved out February 2017 when he went on a family vacation (he was gone 5 days). I had a lot of people involved to help. Friends, family, coworkers, hell even some random guy I met a week earlier.  I knew the more people I had helping me the more safe I’d feel. Almost like having a little army, meanwhile he was clueless I was even planning on leaving. They all helped me move, find an apt, and block him on social media.  I lost some friends during the whole process but I don’t care because I literally saved my life.  I woke up one day and was like I can’t be a prisoner anymore. I was suicidal, sleeping with a knife under my pillow because I was so scared. 
My life is completely changed now. Everyday I say to my new (incredibly fabulous) fiancé can you imagine if I never left?? You can get out. You need to find that inner strength and start a plan for your LIFE.

I was in one from 17-22. Only reason I was able to leave was cause he went to jail for sexual assault of a minor(she was my neighbor) and he moved out of state for a job.

It was a long process for me. We were together for almost 3 years and I got to the point that I used to cry every single day, felt miserable and worthless. Found some help at school and some friends helped me out. I would say that it wasn’t easy for me but it is the best to cut off all contact with that person, and even change your phone number or even change your address (move out) like I did so they cannot reach you. You can do it! And it will all be worth it.

Honestly,  I tried leaving multiple times but the thing that finally ended it was he punched me in the face 6-7 times on a train,  breaking open the bridge of my nose and literally spraying blood all over the seats,  then punched and tackled the train conductor.  He was arrested and an order of protection was put on by the police saying he can't contact me in any way,  even through a third party, otherwise he'd be arrested again.  That's how I finally got away and the communication has been over since that day.  That was 4 years ago.  I'd like to think he won't try to contact me after the order of protection is over..
