New job... husband is getting surgery

So I started a new job a few weeks ago and all has been well. I get along great with everyone and have been picking up the work. I recently found out my husband needs to get surgery on something that he has previously has surgery on last October. This is very sudden and unexpected and they had to schedule it for this Thursday. I am unsure what to do since I did just start this job but I also need to be there for him the day of the surgery to bring him to the hospital, back home, and watch him after anesthesia once we are home the rest of the day. My manager and my company in general are very family oriented and I feel if I explained the situation they would encourage me to be there with my husband and be understanding of what’s going on as it was out of my control and very unpredicted and sudden as I said. However I am just nervous about how it will be taken since I am still new. I do have the ability to offer to work earlier/later the other days of the week and possibly from home as well if needed. Any opinions on what I should do or how to word it?
