Stay at Home Mom?

Question

How did you propose the idea to your husband of being a stay at home mom? I was with my first child, I stayed home before he was even born and up until he was a little after 1. But, with the one on the way, he hasn't been totally for it, mainly cause I have a great job now. 
But, he makes 6 figures with or without me. 
I know we wouldn't struggle and I would not be opposed to going back after the first year.
I just know with how much he works and how much I handle our son, home, animals on top of working full time right now, I don't think I mentally can do it with another by myself. 
And I just don't want to leave her after a couple months and trust her in a daycare facility.

If you can afford it and want to stay home I don’t understand why he would want you to go back to work? Staying at home the first year is 100% what is best for the baby. Obviously not everyone can do that (or want to) and that’s fine, but if you can and want to then definitely do it :)

It was something my husband always wanted for our kids. He was raised by babysitters and he hated it,  he missed his parents.  We did it opposite though,  I wasnt able to quit until our son was a year and a half.  But since then we had another baby and I am due in a few weeks with #3, so I have been home with them all their lives.  When I was working when my oldest was little my husband and I worked opposite shifts so that one of us was home with our little guy at all times. It was rough because we didn't get time together,  but now that I'm home we get family time all the time!!

You just simply explain if he wants a happier partner than you want to try it out and just stay open minded that if it doesn’t work out as you plan, for your family, you are open to going back to work. Also start saving a little to have some cushion and take some of the financial stress off him. It’s really all up to what you want to do and what will be best for you and your family. Honestly you can always work but kids grow up and you never get that time back. In the blink of an eye they will be heading off to school so try to relish in the chaos while you can if it’s an option for you.

My husband came to me a few years ago and told me that he wants me to stay home with our kids. I was shocked and surprised that he said that because that’s not what I wanted at the time, but now I won’t have it any other way. He was raised by daycares and random family members and he doesn’t recall those memories fondly. I also worked in a daycare for several years (an accredited, highly rated one) and I know what kinds of corners are cut and what sorts of things happen throughout the day so that really solidified my decision. Just explain to him that cognitively and developmentally, being home with mom is the best thing you can do for your baby. Raising your own baby is more important than the little income that you’ll bring home after paying for daycare if you have the option.

My husband and I talked a lot about daycares and how things are right now and our daughter’s safety. He came up with the idea of me staying home. It really comes down to daycare and newborns. They tend to be left alone because they sleep a lot. I’d play the safety card. Tell him you just need to stay home for both your piece of mind knowing baby is in the best hands at the most critical time.
