How does one throw a baby shower?

I have no idea what to do. Do you food? If so, what food? Do you party favor? If so, how? Venue? Who to invite? I feel like no one would come lol. I know so many various types of people from all over the country. AND I'm a student which means all my closest friends in proximity are in class. A general idea of the process would help, though. At least to get the ball rolling :)

I have always done my own food at a hall like Vfw, community center or if you do summer a picnic shelter. I prefer home cooked food over catered. If you go catered, search for an affordable hall that provides linens and maybe center pieces. Whatever your theme maybe choose decorations to match. Usually play 2-3 shower games with small prizes such as a spa basket, potted plant or etc. (usually a $20 max). I am personally looking at a sheet cake, from costco or SAMs generally affordable. I am not one to go over the top on anything, so I try to keep it elegant yet affordable. Good luck! FYI look on etsy, they have digital invites and etc

My husband and I rented a local park and we're having a baby BBQ. Lawn games. BBQ food. Etc.

I'm doing mine at a local restaurant in a private room. My sister is allergic to dogs and everyone I know has them so we couldn't do it at anyone's house. I'm planning on just letting anyone who wants to order food do it of their own accord. My mother in law is hosting mine so I'm not really doing any of the work lol. I made the invitations and booked the room but that's it. We'll be having a few games and opening presents. We will definitely have a cake but my dads cousin makes them so it will probably be pretty cheap. Do whatever you want! I'm having mine a little early so I can have it before school and sports and everything start.

I'm planning mine with my friend tomorrow. We're probably going to play some games with prizes, have some party favors, I'm not sure about food or venue yet, maybe will have it at the park we had our wedding reception at.
