Does breastfeeding really act as a birth control?

I’m hearing and reading a lot of different things on the internet. I’ll ask my doctor next visit in a month but for now maybe some of you ladies know? I’d like to have a another child soon after our son is born. Will breastfeeding LOWER our chances? HMM (either way I’m still BF lol)

Definitely not. I was EBF and got pregnant the first time when my daughter was 3/4 months

Breastfeeding should not be used as birth control, unless your okay with two children under the age of 1. 
I am EBF my 10 week old and since 4 weeks have been on the pill to prevent another child. 
If you want another child though, then it will likely happen if you don’t use another form of birth control.

Absolutely not. Yes, some women don’t get their period while nursing. But it is absolutely NOT something to think of as birth control. You can most definitely get pregnant while nursing.

I was breastfeeding a lot and we weren't actively TTC. we will have kids 15 months apart. 
so in my case, that's a big no on the breastfeeding as bc

I had my 6 week checkup today and the doctor explained that while breastfeeding is definitely not birth control it lowers your chance of ovulation so it’s not as easy to get pregnant if you are bf but it is definitely still possible

It can be up to 80% effective for the first 3 months after that it is at most 30% effective
