Is it normal for grandparents to invite THEIR friends to their grandbaby's baby shower? or is it just a celebration for the parents-to-be?

my mother in law is passive aggressive & wanting her friends at the baby shower for my first baby even though our guest limit is 35 people.

Who is hosting and paying for the shower? Usually the host makes the guest list and invites people. 
It could be that she’s excited and wants to share the joy with her friends

If she’s throwing the shower, she gets to invite her friends. If she’s not throwing it, she could maybe ask nicely for her very best friend to be included...

my mother in law wanted us to invite 10 of her friends that neither of us had ever met and some never even heard of (space limit of 25 people). we had our friends we wanted to invite and told her no. she threw such a hissy fit because she wasn't allowed to have her friends there. she wasn't paying and there was no room. shes the type of person who wants everything about her and cries if she doesnt get her way. if you dont want her friends there then they shouldn't be. it's about you and the baby

A lot of our parents and grandparents’ friends are family friends. So they’d absolutely have an invite. My husband’s mom, aunt and grandma all have a best friend who would be invited no matter what. My MIL actually has two best friends we’d extend the invite to. It’s just a given in our family.

I've gotten used to it, during family events my mom invites her friends, and lots of them, I hope I never do that as a parent but I've just stopped questioning it after a while

It all depends who’s throwing the shower for you. Usually people don’t throw their own baby shower. I know that for me personally, it’s going to be a complete surprise who’s at my shower 😅

If it’s a friend we know, have spent time with and invited to our wedding; they were invited to shower. Some of our parents friends we grew up with so it only made sense to include them in this!
