When can I test?

My cycles vary from 26-28 days each month. I ovulated on cycle day 17 this month (2 days later than I normally do) and BD’d accordingly. If a first response early response test says I can test 5 days before my missed period, that works out to only being about 5-7 DPO. Is it possible that the test would pick up enough, if any hcg that soon for a positive result? Thanks!

If you ovulated late, then your period would also be later. You get your period 14 days after ovulation so test 5 days before your actual period using your ovulation date to calculate when af is due.

Agree with the other lady .. but word of warning, even at 5 days before and the first response being able to read for pregnancy from 6 days before it still may not be accurate. 
Implantation occurs between 6-12dpo and then you need a couple of days for the hcg to get to a high enough level in your pee to turn positive...so when testing at 5 days before your period (or 9dpo) you're still halfway through the possible implantation window. If eggy is still cruising around looking for the perfect hunker down spot in your uterus at 9dpo then the test won't turn positive as you can on,y get a positive once eggy has been snuggled and implanted for a couple of days.
So if testing at 9dpo and it comes back negative, don't be too discouraged. Know that there are still another 3 days that eggy can implant, and another 5/6 days where the hcg can get high enough to show on a test.
