White lie VS the truth

Here is a scenario..... basically one I am going through. A big birthday of mine just past and my mom was devastated she couldn't be with me for it. So she got me a very nice and very thoughtful gift. She was very excited for me to get it and use it. Well it turns out that the gift just doesn't suite me. I thought I would love it but it just isnt eight for me. I may never use it again. Do I tell her? Or just tell an innocent white lie that I love it and use it everyday?
