Pediatrician or family doctor?

Question

I was talking with my mom about how I need to pick a pediatrician when she told me all her kids just went to a family doctor. 
I like both options here why pediatrician obviously deal with infants and children and that's there schooling. I would feel good about what they say. 
I like the idea of a family doctor too this means our kids can stay with one person as along as there working. Therefor they would know my baby's full medical history. 
What are you other moms going with??

We're sticking with our family practioner. She's an amazing doctor and is really good with our son.

My sister's pediatrician saved her life when she was born early. My daughter's pediatrician saved her life by referring is to the hospital when her leukemia was just starting to evidence itself even though it wasn't presenting in a textbook way. If it had gone undetected for another week or so, we may have lost her. Family doctors can be great, but I wouldn't ever take my girls to anyone but a pediatrician at this point. They are more familiar with a child's needs and I need that.

We use a pediatrician now. I used a family doctor for my first two children. Our big problem was the doctor wasn't great at knowing what was developmentally appriopriate for speech. I kept insisting I felt my son was not where he should be and he said it was fine. I went with my gut and had his speech tested. His comprehension was 86% and his verbal skills were 13% of where they should be. I was extremely unhappy!   We have been very happy since switching and we know that our doctor knows how children should be developing. We use the same pediatrician for all five of our children.

I work in family medicine, so baby will be seeing a doctor in my office. It's just a personal preference. My doctor already sees a lot of children/young families so I'm confident in her care. I have filled in at our peds office before, and it's so busy, difficult to get in for appointments and so many sick kids (yes, I realize that's the point of a doctor's office 😉). They also send a lot of patients to urgent care because they are full. I like the option of being able to see my doctor on short notice.

We're going with a pediatrician. They have more time to dedicate to staying on top of baby/child research. But it's really personal preference.
