When to tell boss

Hey everyone so I am officially pregnant (should be 5 weeks) - my question is when should I tell my boss ? It’s been 7 years since I was last pregnant and then I wasn’t working so I am wondering if I should tell her immediately Incase of complications early on or just severe sickness ? No symptoms yet other than nagging headache and not wanting to eat but nothing to extreme ! Thanks for any input

I told my line manager last week (I’m 7 weeks) because I was starting to get symptoms like severe tiredness and nausea. We have a very good relationship so I knew by confiding in her I’d receive support and more flexibility with things like working from home. But I’m very fortunate in that sense - I think it depends on your own situation. If I hadn’t been getting symptoms I probably would have waited until 12 weeks.

It is completely up to you. You are under no obligation to disclose until you are ready. That being said if you need to make any modifications to your work hours or duties, you may need to explain why. But in that case it’s strictly a need to know basis and your supervisor cannot share that information with others.

I think it depends what you do. I've told some of my bosses because some shifts I've felt very unwell and it was probably very obvious anyway. though im not very bothered about waiting till 12 weeks to tell people in general I don't go out my way to tell people but I don't think it's bad luck and if the worst was to happen then my bosses would need to know why I'm off etc

With my first pregnancy I was so sick I couldn’t hide it, and my coworkers starting picking up on it so I went ahead and told my supervisor fairly early on before they heard it from someone else. But so far (knock on wood) I haven’t been too sick, just exhausted, so I’m planning to tell my supervisors around the end of May-beginning of June because I know they will need as much time as possible to find a contract person to cover my leave. Depending upon how my first appointment goes and if I were to start having complications, then I would probably go ahead and tell them sooner, but otherwise I don’t feel like I need to fill them in just yet.

I work in an OR so I will be telling my boss this week due to the fact that I am around X-ray and chemicals. And my morning sickness sucks so I don’t want everyone thinking I’m contagious when I puke. But it’s totally up to you.

Try to wait until end of first trimester. Of the sickness or bump make things too apparent, then let them know once you just can’t hide it anymore
