MIL says brushing baby's test ruins them... and that's why her friends grand daughter teeth are apparently ruined because the mom brushed her baby's teeth.... I think she's wrong you have too brush your baby's teeth once they pop up cuz she keeps telling my boyfriend don't do it or we will ruin our baby's teeth

🤦🏼‍♀️ she’s wrong. You are supposed to brush babies teeth from the get go - as soon as they come in. It is important to brush baby teeth just as you would any other teeth. Baby teeth need to be taken care of because they can effect the adult teeth underneath. 
You can show her a number of articles online supporting infant tooth brushing, if you’d like.

my little one is teething but they havent popped through yet. my MIL actually told me to start brushing NOW to 1) it can help soothe 2)get her used to me messing in her mouth 3)get me used to brushing her teeth before they actually get here. I dont use toothpaste just some water to wet it (its not a traditional bristle brush but the jelly silicone baby's first type brush)

That's totally wrong. You need to brush their teeth right when those first teeth pop out, there is toothpaste you can use for babies. Do it every night and morning, make it a routine so when they are a toddler its easier to get them to do it

PSA if you do extended breastfeeding it's really important to cut out night time nursing when you baby gets teeth. I brushed my sons teeth in the morning after lunch and before bed but because he nursed all night and would comfort nurse a lot the milk would sit on his top teeth all night causing very bad cavities and his one front tooth was literally disappearing from the decay. he had the bf equivalent of "bottle rot" he just recently had to be put under so a child specialist dentist could file away the cavities and put caps on his teeth. but once I stopped nursing at night the one tooth pretty much stopped disappearing and the rotting stopped. now he has 4 caps on his four front teeth. but one dentist wanted to be lazy and just pull them all out. even though they don't get more teeth until around 7 and he would  have a very hard time speaking. I'm  thankful everything is "fixed" for now. until his teeth fall out and he gets new ones but I'll always feel guilty and I'll never make the same mistake again. but yeah regardless BRUSH YOUR KIDS TEETH.

Just talked to my dentist about it; she’s wrong. He recommended just brushing with water and a soft baby toothbrush.

I was a dental assistant and she is so wrong. I have seen so many cases of bottle rot, please protect your babies teeth while they are too young to clean their own.
