Colposcopy in Second Trimester
So, I’ve had an abnormal pap for several years. I had a colposcopy about two years ago. They weren’t terribly worried about it, they just wanted to do a pap every six months to monitor. Well now I’m pregnant! When I went for my eight week ultrasound (several weeks ago), they also did a pap. She said my cervix was very irritated and inflamed, and when she rubbed the brush across my cervix, I immediately started bleed... a lot. But she wasn’t super worried about it. I stopped bleeding that evening and it was no longer an issue. Of course my pap came back abnormal, which we all already knew it would. But my OB wants to do a colposcopy when I’m further into my second trimester. I guess I’m just worried. They’re not sure if they’re going to do biopsies until they actually can get a closer look. Has anyone else had any experience with a colposcopy during pregnancy? Obviously my doctor isn’t going to do anything to put me or the baby at risk, I just need some reassurance.
