Starting foods?

My LO is 4 months 2 weeks. He obviously wants food...he watches me eat, tries to grab my cup or food from my plate. He is EBF and I know they recommend waiting until 6 months, but this kiddo seems ready. Should I hold off or try some oatmeal or food for him?

Check out the website “baby foode” lots of good homemade recipes. I would start with a vegetable then fruit. Like avocado then bananas.. carrots, apples, sweat potatoes, green beans etc...

Not true! You can absolutely wait until six months. He needs to be able to sit up on his own independently before solids. Many pediatricians are still practicing old school ways. Plus cereal has no real nutritional value.

My little man it’s the exact same way we have started oatmeal and doc said that was fine but not to do Puréed foods till 6months

I’m transitioning my son to formula from being EBF so I’m waiting for his belly to adjust to formula then we’ll be starting oatmeal. 
My ped recommends that we do NOT offer any fruits (sweets) for awhile. She said because obviously babies will prefer the sweets so to test all veggies first. Also I have food allergies and my mother has food allergies to fruits so I’ll also be waiting for those. I’ll be trying oatmeal first for him. Then sweet potato and squash.

I started feeding at 4 months 1 weeks,  as she sounds exactly the same as yours.  I started with avocado, Tofu, banana, apple sauce, peas,  potato and iron fortified rice cereal. At first she didn't know what was happening, but it didn't take long to figure out what food means,  after 1 weeks she gets so excited for lunch,  opens her mouth to be feed and tries to feed herself. I'm doing a infant nutrition course on future learn by Deakin University and they advise not to give oatmeal,  but fortified cereals as oatmeal is not nutritionally dense and to try feed baby non sweet foods first so they learn to like savoury tastes - as all will like sweet foods

Hi. I tried giving baby puree foods. Like bananas and sweet potatoes. She seemed like she loved it but her little tummy wasn’t use to it. So I’m probably going to wait another month until she’s 6 months and can sit up on her own

I started to give my some rice cereal, but he didn’t like it too much. I gave him a little bit of purée banana & he loved it. Our pediatrician told us we can start solids anywhere from 4-6 months. He said the main reason doctors say to wait until 6 months is because of obesity issues. He let us know as long as your baby shows interest then it’s fine to start little by little.

Our dr told us at around 4 months EBF babies don’t get enough iron from breastmilk so to start iron fortified oatmeal. We’re giving it a go this weekend and I can’t wait!
