Does it hurt?

Question

Hey! I’m 36 weeks today and go in tmrw for apt and GBS test. Not sure if they will offer dilation check or if I even want it? I’ve heard it really hurts for some people, so not sure it’s worth it when I could be dilated or not and I know it doesn’t mean that much.. should I just wait a couple weeks? Do they usually check at 36 weeks?
My only other concern is I’m taking a short day trip flight to and from a wedding at 37.5 weeks (assuming feeling fine) so might be nice to know before then, but I could probably just get checked at next weeks apt for that.

Don’t do it. It’ll stress you out and raise more questions than necessary. Dilation and effacement mean nothing until labor starts 🙂

I had mine today at 37 weeks, 1 day. I didn’t think it hurt and it made me really happy to know my cervix is getting soft and thinning. It would have drove me crazy not to know if anything was happening!

The GBS test is just kinda awkward. As for checking the cervix, I had mine checked at 33 weeks because I was having contractions and lightning crotch (which means baby’s head is pushing on my cervix, which means you may start to dilate) so she asked me if she could check my cervix just to make sure everything was still closed. I was curious too so I said sure. I don’t find them painful really just an uncomfortable feeling maybe some pressure? I had them done with my last pregnancy too and I really didn’t mind it. Even though dilation and effacement mean nothing until you’re actually in labor, it was still exciting to hear that my body was getting ready 😊

I had the GBS test on Monday and that was fine but since my doctor was down their she wanted to do a cervical check. It was sooooooo uncomfortable and it bothered me all day. She must had done something though because the next day I lost my plug.

If they do offer I’d say no. Way too early.

My dr started checking my cervix two weeks ago Monday when I was 34 weeks. I was 0 Dilated & 0 effaced.This past Monday at 36 weeks he checked again and I’m
Now at 1cm Dilated & 80% effaced. I’m not due until May 21st. This is my third baby. & it could still be another week or two. In my opinion though I think he’ll be here next week or before. However that’s due to my history. Most woman are both dilated a little and effaced some as well and are like this for 3-4 weeks before delivering. Good Luck to you!

The gbs test is more embarrassing than anything. Lol no pain and as far as being checked for dilation..unless there’s a reason idk why they would even do it..my dr didn’t even mention it. And I e heard the more they do it the more likely you can get an infection.

Not going to lie I've had my cervix checked now 2 times by 2 different doctors and it was pretty uncomfortable 😑. Everyone is different though!

The gbs rest is painless. Just a cotton swab on your skin. I would not do the dilation check. No point in it.
