What would you do

Question

Me and my husband were getting our 3 year old son ready for bed and I didn't feel like reading tonight and said "I'm not as enthusiastic and good of a reader as you, you should read to him tonight." So my husband says in an annoyingly normal voice, "well clearly you don't care about his education since you don't care to be enthusiastic while reading OR read to him." (We take turns reading every night.) And of course, I got offended and said "how dare you say I don't care about our sons education because I don't feel like reading TONIGHT." Then he looked at our son and said "that's okay, clearly mama doesn't care enough about your education to read a book to you." And he picked up a book and ENTHUSIASTICALLY started  reading as I walked out tearing up and in shock, trying to keep calm because I'm pregnant.

Am I being overly dramatic about this because of my hormones or was this wrong and rude of my husband?

If I'm not being overly dramatic, how should I handle the situation?

That's parental alienation. Besides being rude and unnecessary. Collect your thoughts and calmly tell him how you feel. Every parent (especially pregnant mommies) have every right to simply not feel up to something every once in a while without being made to feel like crap because of it.

He took a passive aggressive jab at his pregnant wife (over something completely silly)...not cool. He definitely didn't handle that situation appropriately. Parents should NEVER belittle each other in front of the kid(s). Give yourself some time to cool off, then talk to him about it.

Wow! He took that way out of line. It's one night of reading stories, sheesh! That was a really low blow and doing it in front of your child is extremely wrong. I'd be very hurt too. You aren't overreacting

He was rude. I got on my husband about saying "mama this and that". I told him not to put his opinions of his wife on his child's shoulders. He has since stopped and didn't mean to hurt me. You handled it well!

It was wrong of him to talk to your son badly about you even if just about not wanting to read, her didn't have to say you don't care about his education. To me that seems like he was trying to stir the pot. When my husband does that I walk away from the moment and afterwards I explain to him why I'm upset and that it's not okay to speak badly about each other in front of our children. BTW skipping one night isn't going to ruin his education since at 3yo I doubt he'd assigned reading lesson daily.

I feel badly that your child had to witness that. If you husband has something to say, he should learn to do it respectively and not use your child in the situation

I sorta feel like you were both being rude. You were trying to pawn off your reading night onto your husband, and then got upset when he called you on it, and he was rude for saying that in front of your son.
