What kind of plant is this?

Sorry for the terrible quality pictures btw. Got it from a family member, going to repot, and see if I can ‘repair’ it so to speak. 
Does anyone know what kind of plant this is, and if there’s a way to fix the broken leaves?

here is mine! I would cut off the two lowest leaves and then after that every time it gets a new leaf cut one of the old ones off. try to do it so the leaf numbers are even it will grow a leaf one one side and then the next leaf will be on the other side
