Thoughts on Membrane Sweep?

Okay ladies at my last appointment I was dilated to a 3 and 60% effaced and I've been having contractions on and off for 2 weeks, so my doctor offered that she can do a membrane sweep at my 38 weeks appointment if I want. I've done a little research, but it seems to be one of those controversial issues (like everything in pregnancy) 😉. So I was just wondering what your personal experience is with it? Was it worth it? Does it hurt? Are there any major risks I should be aware of? Etc. I would appreciate any advice anyone has, but please remember to be nice. Thanks! 😊
